It’s vital that everyone knows the rules of safety. How horrid would it be if nobody knew how to be safe? The human population would probably take a nose dive! It’s important to take caution with you in everyday life but don’t overdo it because then, you wouldn’t be able to “live your life”. Many factors affect your safety, from walking home alone, to talking on the phone when driving or even not wearing a seat belt. Everything affects your own well being and health.
Some of the most common deaths are caused by car accidents. People aren’t careful enough about car safety, they’d dawdle around when their driving by doing things like talking on their cell phones or fixing their makeup between stop lights. All these things are extremely dangerous because you can’t predict what will happen next, or what drivers in the other cars are thinking. Accidents are caused by these kind of things but the fatalities are caused by things like not fastening their seat belt, or sitting wrong in a seat. Kids are the reckless ones, but some parents just don’t seem to bother anymore. That’s why the laws invented things like the “Click it or Ticket” rule. Having your seat belt on can save your life in many ways. It helps you not to fly out of your seat in a collision by keeping you stationed and not sending your head straight through a window. If this can’t motivate you to wear a seat belt, then maybe this site might.

I’ve been in a case of an accident before but it wasn’t something major, yet it was still a little traumatizing for me. We got reared I think, on purpose pretty hard, it made me go forward but I was wearing a seat belt and after, it was somewhat peculiar because I started putting on my seat belt on all the time. I used to not put on my seat belt at all because, in Thailand, you weren’t required to wear seat belts so nobody bothered, but when I came over here, it was so much different. They required it and I didn’t really know why and I didn’t seem to care either. Now, I know the reason why they make us wear seat belts. It’s for our personal safety and they want to reduce the amount of deaths caused by automobile accidents because it happens so much. Every 15 seconds, an accident happens! That means that the time it takes you to read this blog, at least 4 accidents have occurred! That’s just crazy, but a lot of factors contribute to accidents; speeding, drunk driving, not obeying the speed limit and distracted drivers are some leading causes of automobile accidents. If you stress these dangers to other people, maybe you can even save a loved one this year. It’s best to stay safe and obey the traffic laws because you never know what might happen!

Staying fit and physical is a vital and everyday thing for everyone. Physical fitness is when you manage throughout the day with energy to spare. It’s something you achieve by achieving total cardiovascular endurance, muscular fitness, flexibility and body composition. It affects every aspect of a person’s daily activities. Physical fitness can be achieved by regular exercise, proper rest and diet and nutrition. You should at least exercise 30 minutes a day. If you exercise more than you eat, you’ll loose weight. If you’re not the kind of person that’s athletic, there are other solutions to exercising. You could do a 30 minute cardio workout or even yoga. It builds endurance and helps you relax and release all your daily earned stress.

Physical exercise is important for everybody. Without it, you’ll be out of energy all the time and you’ll gain a lot of weight which isn’t exactly healthy because you can develop things like diabetes and other diseases. To check your health right now you can find your BMI. The healthy ranges vary in age. The higher the score, the higher chances you get of being obese. The more you take care of yourself and your body, the healthier your BMI score will be. If you are too lazy most of the times to exercise, then you should consider joining sports. It motivates you to do more and once you join, you’ll feel like you have to be part of the team, this will also help you make more friends while getting the daily exercise you need.

I saw in a magazine recently, that a good activity to do for a workout is surprisingly, jump roping! It’s a cardiovascular activity thaat builds stamina and muscle mass plus agility. It’s a good workout that you can do everyday. You progressively increase the amount of time you jump in each workout and eventually, you’ll build stamina!
Sports has actually helped me out a lot. I always too lazy to go out and exercise but then my mom started joining me into tons of sports. You name it, I probably played it, that’s how active I used to be, it got pretty crazy, but now I cut down my sports to swimming, basketball and soccer. I was mad at first that she put me into all those activities but then I was later thankful that she did because I got daily exercise and I knew that sitting in the house all day consuming large amounts of junk food isn’t going to help my health. Joining into something made me more motivated to ateending the practices and games. It helped my coordination and strength. If you’re a couch potato right now, you should start joining sports, it’s provides a good workout, you can meet new friends, increase endurance and your skill at that sport. There’s hundreds of sports out there waiting for you to participate in and you never know, you might end up liking it!

This is a great site for overall health and physical fitness.
Your body is very important and you have to be aware of how it works. There are many different types of body systems in your body and all of them have a role in helping you function well in everyday activities. The image on top shows all your major body systems.
Every part of your body is used to complete everyday tasks. From your brain to your toes, we use it all. Without all crucial parts we might not even be able to function and therefore, live. The most important organ in your body is your brain. You use it from everything you do. From moving to talking, without our brains, we wouldn’t be called the “intelligent life form”. Our brain is complex and works in many different ways. It’s amazing what an organ that size could do. Your brain has different sections with different functions. You use the left side of your brain when you talk and the right side for your artistic activities. Your brain doesn’t work all at once, that’s why it’s hard to do things like “rub your stomach clockwise and pat your head”. When you learn, your brain analyzes the information and compares it with things you learned in your past. That’s why, if you keep practicing new things you learned, you’ll know it more and you’ll be able to do it without struggle. Your brain also stores memory, which is something that everyone values. Without memory, you won’t be able to remember where you left your homework or even where you live. Your brain is the result of your face expression and your body language. When you are angry or sad, your brain is the culprit of revealing your feelings.
Your eyes and ears are your sight and hearing, they’re also very important so take good care of them! There are many things that can decrease the accuracy of your hearing and sight. The ear is complex and learning how it works is too. Things like listening to too loud music and working in a noisy place can greatly affect your hearing. You can do a variety of things to decrease these events. Don’t try to block out other noises by increasing another noise. For example, when someone is vacuuming, don’t turn up the sound on the TV just to tune out the noise, that’ll make things even worse. Just bear it for a moment longer because by doing this, you’re slowly damaging your ears.

In my case, I do this a lot. I turn on my iPod to the maximum it’ll go just to tune out other people’s bickering or just because I’m too lazy to turn it down. Now, that I learned more about hearing and what not to do to decrease hearing, I’ll turn it down. I used to always tune out other annoying sounds by turning up another sound, I realized that I was slowly damaging my eardrums by doing these things. I could have just left the room or the place where I was in to decrease the amount of sound that would reach me because noises are loudest at the source.
It’s also very important to preserve your sight. How we see is affected by many things. As you grow older, your eyesight might worsen because of repeated times of reading in the dark or watching movies too close to the screen. Gradual reduction of eyesight might be the cause of bright sunlight, UV exposure, or eye injuries. Vision can be corrected by many things, glasses, laser eye surgery, operations and many more. Some kids already need glasses when their toddlers because genetics also affects your eye sight and how well you see. There are so many different eye problems because the eye is so complex and so sensitive. Try this vision to test your eyesight.
Directions: if the blue bar measures 10 cm across, stand 10 feet away from the screen.

I don’t take good care of my eyes either, though I make an effort at it. I often read in the dark, again because of the “lazy” factor. I didn’t really think that it affected my eyesight because I still was able to see the words on the page and that was good enough for me. I also used to watch the TV close up to the screen but I found out that that affects your eyesight too. Even being on the computer for long periods of time in a dark room and close up to the screen is bad for your eyesight, so if you’re doing either of both of these things right now, I suggest you change your position and turn on the lights because everyone wants to maintain a good and healthy eyesight. Treat them right and you won’t regret it!
Making healthy decisions is very important in everyday and social life. So take good care of yourself since it’s vital to make you your best. Making decisions like what to eat for breakfast everyday or who not to talk to makes a tremendous impact on you. It’s those little decisions that keep you healthier and more safe. When you face a decision, and don’t know what to do, just think! Always think things over before you do something that you might regret later. For instance, talking to strangers. It’s not always bad to meet new people, they could help you out and you might even make a new friend but sometimes there are just signs that tell you if its OK to talk to someone. Follow your instincts and think it through before doing something. It’ll keep you safe and out of a lot of trouble.
Another thing that may seem unimportant is peer pressure. Everyday, people get pressured by their own friends. Your friends may be telling you to do things that are overrated and you agree to it because you’re afraid you’re going to loose their friendship. Real friends don’t tell you to do things that they know you don’t want to do. If they really wanted to be friends with you, they wouldn’t care if you said no to them. It’s hard to say no and it takes real courage but you have to do it if you know it’s the right thing to do. Go with your opinion. They’d then know that you didn’t want to do it. Though, sometimes, the person doesn’t know that they’re pressuring you so the only way to indicate that your being pressured is by just telling them. If you let the smallest encouragement get to you, it’ll gradually get worse, from letting them talking you into copying your work to letting them talk you into doing drugs. The next time you experience peer pressure, don’t be afraid to express your opinions to them because it’s the decision your making for yourself, not their’s. Take charge of your life and be the real boss.

I, myself experienced a lot of peer pressure first hand. It’s hard to deal with and you know there are some people you know that won’t tolerate you saying no to them and you don’t want them to hate you, especially your friends but I learned that friends don’t do that to each other. I try not to do that to my friends because I don’t want to put them in that position because it’s hard but you have to stick up for yourself. You have to stick to your beliefs, your friends aren’t going to stick up for you all the time and you might find that saying your opinion is satisfying. If you experience a lot of peer pressure, then you should know that your hanging around with the wrong crowd. It’s important to realize this because you’ll get into a lot of trouble. Not only are you bring pressured now, but it will get worse as you grow older and get around with different people. You’ll hang around other people that want to get you into even worse things. You could even go to jail for making the wrong decision so practicing your “saying NO” skills will really help as you get older. You have the power to express your opinion so why not do it?

Some other advice I would like to give is:
- First of all, eat plenty of nutritious and whole meals. Don’t skip any meals and always eat breakfast, since it’s proven to be the most important meal of the day. People who eat breakfast tend to perform better in everyday tasks than people who don’t.
- ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. There’s a lot to be aware of. Protect yourself against harmful predators and stalkers, both on the internet and around you. They have the potential to do things that aren’t
- Try to take more naps, statistics show that people who nap daily are healthier, stronger, and smarter. Since sleeping help develop your brain more, it can help you gain a better short-term memory and cause to you function well in daily activities. The latest study showed that people who napped for at least three times a week for half an hour had a 37% lower risk of dying from heart problems and heart attacks since naps benefit the heart by reducing stress. Overall, people who take naps will live a longer and unstressful life.
This site provides meal plans for those who want to make healthy food choices.
You’ve might have heard a million anti-smoking messages about the dangers of smoking cigarettes and the usage of tobacco. It’s one of the most heavily used addictive drugs in the United States and despite of everyone spreading the massage, people still try it and repeatedly get addicted. Millions of people today are the victims of tobacco and will later develop cancer. They will harm other people around them, this year, 38,000 people will die from diseases caused by secondhand smoke. What you see is this deadly, addictive drug everywhere you go. You’re parents might even use it. These days, practically everyone smokes. It’s so common that it’s not an alarming thing to see someone smoke on the street opposed to someone smoking heroine or weed. Today, smoking is becoming a global addiction. Many kids as young as the age of 11 are starting it! Well, the tobacco companies are trying to appeal more to the kids than the adults. In a tobacco industry secret document in the 1990’s revealed that some companies studies adolescent psychology to learn how to make cigarettes more appealing to teens. Cigarette makers put at least 700 additives into almost all cigarettes, including products used in nail polish and rat poison. Every drag you take from a cigarette fills your lungs with 4,000 toxins-43 of them being known to cause cancer. To be more informed, Learn The Truth about tobacco today.
It may be hard to quit the habit of smoking, but it isn’t impossible. You could join a support group, use nicotine patches which can help control your urge for nicotine by giving you smaller doses each time but the most powerful factor in quitting is your self-motivation. Don’t even attempt it in the first place;
- It can cause weight gain because smoke damages the tiny air sacs in the lungs; so smokers become out of breath more quickly which makes it harder to exercise.
- Causes acne ; nicotine increases stress hormones, which speed oil production. This clogs pores and more breakouts.
- Causes bad breath and teeth. Smoking encourages bacteria growth by drying the mouth and chemicals in cigarettes cause the bacteria to stay.
- You’ll feel more depressed. Smoking lowers serotonin which are brain chemicals that make you feel good.
- Your grades will drop. Smokers’ brains have a hard time functioning without nicotine and their memory suffers.
- It’s costly. A pack a week comes to $260 a year!

There are many more forms of alcohol than just cigarettes. Some other common forms are chewing tobacco, pipes and cigars but the most commonly used drug form of tobacco is the cigarette. Each are all harmful and cause cancer.
- There are many nasty chemicals and products in a cigarette:

- This is basically the stages that drug users go through. They might not go in this order but this chart would help drug users determine where they’re at in the spectrum.

Everyone goes through different periods in their lifetime. They go through times that might not be the best, some worth remembering and some worth forgetting. Everyone grows up and we learn from our mistakes. Life keeps going no matter how unbearable it may seem at times. You just have to try to make the best of it. I’ve experienced these times first hand myself. When I was small, I didn’t live with neither of my parents. One was a drunk and the other, in another country plus, they were separated. I stayed with my great grandparents who took care of me well, still I felt miserable because I was still a child and like most children, I felt attached to my parents, mostly yearning my mom. I got used to the fact that they weren’t there for me, so I just learned not to depend on people as much and I tried making it as easy as possible for my grandparents to take care of me because I understood that it was hard for them to take care of a child when you’re in that stage in your life where you’re barely mobile. I feel more independent now because of that experience, I feel like I don’t need to rely on my parents as much to take care of me.
“Bad experiences” are helpful things; you can learn from them and in whole and become a better, smarter person. As we grow older, we tend to think more things over and worry about the smallest things that aren’t really important. Right now, teenagers are only at the beginning of life and already, we are drastically changing. I’m sure you are seeing many changes in people around you, people you thought you knew, people you’re friends with. Everyone goes through these changes, it’s what makes us human. Some people might be changing for the better, some, for the worst. There’s an upside to everything. If you already think your in the worst situation, there’s no other way to go but up right? So try to view things in an optimistic viewpoint and you might even see improvements in your life.

In the stages of your change, you may see some noticeable signs:
- A greater appreciation of life.
- A change in what is important in you.
- Improved mental and physical health.
- A higher degree of patience.
You might even feel more comfortable around other people if you were shy when you were younger. You are wiser in every way and are more aware of your surroundings. You are less “naive”. Now that you are older, you know more of what is right and what is wrong, I guess you can say that you are more in control of your actions. If you want to change something about yourself, it’s your life, do it and stick to it, you have the power and key to your change.

Life can be stressful. When we get stressed, It’s complicated to cope with. Everyone experiences it, from the smallest difficulty, to the biggest. We experience stress when we are placed in the position where we feel overwhelmed, or unsure of how to meet the demands that life has placed on us. It’s lately been happening more these past two years in junior high. The pressure of keeping up my grades and doing what my parents, teachers and peers expect of me is no doubt very stressful. Stress can be helpful at times in small doses. It motivates you to try your best and to stay focused. Yet, an overwhelming amount of this is bad for your health, both physical and emotional.
If you feel really overwhelmed with something, just take a short break and put it to the side for a while. You might find that after your break, you might be able to concentrate better than you did before. Taking breaks clears your mind and causes you to become more focused and in result do better at that activity. Exercising for a bit and stretching also helps you do well because it increases blood circulation and you feel more refreshed.
There are many ways to deal with stress:
- Take time to do some breathing exercises. Take deep calming breaths.
- Do some stretches that will relieve tension from your body.
- Laugh. It indicates a good sense of humor and you feel relaxed after it. You also get a full body work out since laughter flexes all the muscles in your body and increases blood circulation throughout your body. If you take yourself too seriously, that can cause stress so laugh it off!
- Looking at calming scenes, videos or pictures could also help you relax, calm and peaceful. It could take your mind off your stressful day. Here’s my idea of a calming scene:

You can get more of these off of flickr, they have tons of amazing photos there. One album leads to another, here’s a place you can start. It’s fun to browse, in no time, you’ll start to feel your worries fluttering off.
- Take 30 minute naps when you have time. It clears your mind and helps brain function, which will help your stressful activities.
- Do what you love! By doing activities that you enjoy, you will be less stressed.
- Stressed about graduation? Don’t set high expectations for it because the harder you try to reach it, the more crushed you’ll be when it doesn’t happen. Plan things out and once you’re done, just relax and enjoy. Not everything will be perfect and some of the best times could turn into “Happy accidents”. So loosen up and have fun!

Here are some additional tips on how to deal with stress and understand the causes and effects of stress.
Everybody knows that alcohol is very bad for you, so why try it? Alcohol is proven to be one of the most addictive and commonly used and abused drugs in the world! Alcohol is very disorienting even in small doses. It significantly impairs the judgment and coordination needed to do certain tasks like operating machinery or driving. Don’t believe those false advertisements, all they really want from you is money and in return, you can get drunk and even possibly kill someone. It’s estimated that for every 30 minutes, an alcohol impaired driver kills a person. That’s nearly 50 people a day, and almost 18,000 citizens a year!!

Drinking and drugging are all started by a bad choice so don’t even attempt it. Don’t get reeled in by their advertisements, know the difference between real and reels. Always think and have your mind made up about what you choose not to do. There should be a limit for everyone. If you start drinking, you will regret it and it might be too late before you realize how far into the addiction you’re in. Even the short term effects can be potentially deadly since impairment starts with the first drink. You could hurt people around you and even more importantly, yourself and you wouldn’t even know what happened, since alcohol effects your memory.
Alcohol can cause hallucinations and cause you not to act like yourself, which could cause conflicts and accidents if you happen to be driving at that time. It can cause you to also act out and do things that you normally wouldn’t do when you’re sober. There has to be a variety of factors to exist to transform a person into a true alcoholic. These factors may include a person’s social environment, emotional health or genetic predisposition. A person can develop multiple forms of alcoholism and can suffer both psychologically and physiologically. Alcoholism is a progressive and fatal disease you need to stay away from.
I used to think that it was OK for people to have just one drink, but I learned that one drink can lead to another and another. They get so drunk sometimes that they don’t know their limits. When people are drunk, they don’t know reality, the alcohol causes them to act out and misbehave and make bad choices that could change their life or that they’ll regret. It’s not good to start drinking just because other people are doing it or if you think it’s cool. Really, people that can stick to their decisions are the stronger ones and they should be more respected for their good morals. Getting drunk for no reason is stupid and could cause necessary, even unfortunate things to happen.
Your diet is a huge part of your lifestyle. If you don’t maintain a regular diet, you may be malnourished. Without proper nutrition, you may lack the ability to function well in any physical or mental task since every food item you consume, turns into energy for your body . So eat well! A healthy way to eat is to stay away from those greasy, sweet foods like chips, ice cream and cake. They’re okay to eat if you’re just eating a small amount, but consuming more than to justify your cravings is more than enough. I know they seem like a huge temptation when they’re just right there in front of you but eating less unhealthy foods can make you feel healthier, more energized and just a lot less grumpy. Consuming the daily food groups like vegetables, fruits, meats, rice and wholes grains is a healthy way to eat. A good way to get all the food groups in your system is to mix up all of the food groups in one meal. That way, you won’t have to fret over the fact that you haven’t been consuming the right foods. Remember that eating too much of any kind of food can make you gain weight, so try going for variety and mix it up! Combining different flavors and textures wards off cravings longer. When you eat, try to have a bit of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Aim for half of your meals to be fruits and vegetables, 1/4 lean protein, and 1/4 whole grains. Read labels on foods to be informed about the calories, vitamins, carbs, ect. that you’re taking in so you have an idea of how much, on average, you should consume for you’re body. Keep in mind that the daily caloric intake for females can vary from 1,500 to 2,000 calories, while for males, it’s from 2,400 to 2,800 calories.
I have a hard time resisting junky, fat foods. I always have a lot of food in my pantry and whenever I’m bored, which happens constantly, I go browsing through my pantry. Since my pantry contains a stock-full of unhealthy foods, it’s practically what I eat everyday. After going on that governor’s challenge, lately I’ve been trying to consume more healthy and eat whole meals, since it’ll make you less hungry and more full. I learned that it’s not healthy at all when you’re bored and to eat just for that reason is a bad habit. So if you have that habit, try you’re best to break it because your eating habits now affects you’re eating habits when you get older.

This is what you see right when you open my pantry, as you can see, it doesn’t have that much to choose from and the choices aren’t too healthy either. So if you really want to be commited to eating healthy, tell your parents to buy you less junky, fatty foods. Be aware of what you’re eating and keep track of foods you consume!
Here is a healthy diet pyramid:
